OTISFIELD — Remember the happy days of the 1950s, when people ate lots of fruit Jell-o and casseroles made with Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup?

All those nostalgic for this comfort food are especially invited to attend the Otisfield Historical Society’s April 24 luncheon and program, appropriately titled “Food from the Fifties.” This event will take place at noon at the Otisfield Community Hall, 292 State Route 121. The public is invited.

For those over 60, the menu may be familiar: tuna noodle casserole, jellied fruit salads, pineapple upside-down cake, and, of course, Kool-Aid. The $5 charge for the meal will go towards the Society’s Old Town House Preservation Fund. This will be the first Historical Society program of the new year.

A short business meeting to elect officers for the year will be held immediately after the luncheon. Polly Bartow, coordinator of the event, then promises to reveal just what and why people ate as they did during the Fifties. Those attending will also have a chance to join in singing a song from an old Garrison Keillor show titled, of course, “The Tuna Noodle Casserole,” sung to the tune of an old hymn, “Whispering Hope.”
