LEWISTON — The Androscoggin County Democratic Committee will sponsor a 2nd Congressional District Democratic candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Room 170 at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College on Westminster Street.

State Sens. Emily Cain of Orono and Troy Jackson of Allagash are seeking the U.S. House seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud. They will respond to questions from local people who have been selected for their expertise in education, health care, environmental issues, jobs, the economy, international affairs, immigration, veterans affairs, senior citizen issues, infrastructure and social services.

Questioners include:

* Ike Levine, USM professor of environmental studies, and John Smedley, Bates College professor of physics, who will ask about environmental issues;

* Margaret Craven, Senate chairwoman of the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, and Mary Ruchinskas, community services director for New Beginnings, who will ask about social services; and

* Crystal Ward, a retired high school teacher who is a member of the Maine Education Association board of directors, and Blake Whitaker, associate dean of Lewiston-Auburn College, who will ask about education.

The public is welcome to attend to learn more about the candidates’ positions.

The primary will be held June 10.
