Now I am reading how others would dictate my diet (Sun Journal, letter, Sanders VanZandt, April 9). VanZandt advised people against eating meat. The Humane Society already wants to ban bear baiting. The liberals want to ban gun ownership. The yuppies want to ban competitive sports in schools.
When will it stop?
I am so tired of defending my ideals. They are my ideals; no one else has to adhere to them.
It is so painfully simple to me. If you don’t want to eat meat, don’t. If you don’t wish to own a gun, don’t. If your child is picked last for a team, tell him to practice more. Not everyone is a winner. It is OK.
But do not tell me what to do.
Rather than continuously defending myself from the never-ending onslaught of crusaders, this is my stance from now on: I will continue — regardless of what is enacted or voted in — to eat meat, raise animals to eat, hunt deer and bear to eat, eat trout, carry a loaded handgun, use table salt, jaywalk, listen to rock ‘n roll, and say “Merry Christmas” at Christmastime rather than “Happy Holidays.”
I’m such a barbarian.
I know in my heart that I am living the right way for me. Anyone else can live the way they want. I don’t care.
Please extend me the same courtesy.
