AUBURN — The Auburn Water District declared Wednesday evening as the ice-out date for 2014. As calculated by the U.S. Geological Survey, ice-out fell on the 113th day of the year.
According to the USGS, ice-out is the date in spring when winter ice cover leaves a lake.
2014’s ice-out date of 113 days would be considered average, given 2010’s record low of 81 days (falling on March 22 that year) and 1874’s record-high 134 days (falling on May 14 that year).
