NORWAY — With only two days left to return nomination papers, no contests have emerged for the June 10 annual town election.
Town Clerk Shirley Boyce said Thursday that candidates must return nomination papers by Monday, April 28, at the close of the business day to have his or her name printed on the ballot.
Nomination papers were available Monday, March 17, for five positions: a school board member, two selectmen and two Norway Memorial Library trustees.
Five candidates have taken out nomination papers, but only four have returned them with at least 25 signatures of registered voters as required.
Incumbent selectmen Bill Damon and Warren Sessions have returned their nomination papers for their seats on the Board of Selectmen.
Damon was first elected in 1987 and, with the exception of several years, has served on the board since then. Sessions is a two-term member of the board.
Incumbent School Board member Don Gouin, who first ran in 1987, has returned his nomination papers for the one spot open to represent the town of Norway on the 22-member school board of directors.
Incumbent Library Trustee Patricia Brophy, who currently serves as the president of the board, has returned her nomination papers.
Incumbent Library Trustee Christopher Miller, who took out nomination papers in March, has not yet returned them.
The election will be held on June 10.
