BANGOR (AP) — Republicans across Maine are gathering in Bangor where party leaders hope to show unity ahead of the November elections.
The Maine GOP convention kicks off Friday at the Cross Insurance Center with the theme “United for Jobs, United for Freedom, United for Maine.”
The party will adopt its new platform and introduce the candidates for the state House and Senate races on Friday.
On Saturday, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky will address the crowd. He’ll be followed by Gov. Paul LePage, who’s being challenged in the upcoming elections by Democratic Rep. Mike Michaud and independent candidate Eliot Cutler.
Party leaders expect this year’s convention to be less tumultuous than in 2012, when Ron Paul libertarians took over the convention and elected a majority slate of delegates for the candidate.
