Registered nurse Rachael Lewis, left, is congratulated by Vice President of Nursing Sharron Sieleman for being recognized as a Central Maine Medical Center’s DAISY Award recipient. The DAISY Award is sponsored by the DAISY Foundation and recognizes nurses who consistently demonstrate compassion, critical thinking skills, passion about life, patient- and family-focused care, patient advocacy and support of all health care team members, and who serve as nursing profession role models. Lewis works on the fourth-floor Memorial Wing Pediatrics/Adult Medical-Surgical Nursing Unit, recently relocated from the third-floor Thompson Wing. M4 nurse manager Alison Dehetre nominated Lewis for the award after a family noted the exceptional care she provided for a family experiencing the passing of a loved one. Lewis began working at CMMC in July 2012 after graduating from nursing school. She is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in nursing and is very active in her church. Patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers can nominate nurses whom they feel deserve to be recognized with the DAISY Award.
