AUGUSTA — Maine Gov. Paul LePage has signed two bond proposals for medical research, sending the measures to voters this November.
The $13 million in bonds approved by the governor is part of a $50 million borrowing package lawmakers passed as they wrapped up the session earlier this month.
On Monday, LePage signed a $10 million bill that’s designed to support research for cancer cures. The bond would spur an $11 million match from the federal government.
LePage also signed a $3 million bond bill last week for the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, a non-profit biomedical research institution.
Four other bond proposals await action from the governor. Among them is a $12 million proposal to support financing programs that provide capital for small businesses.
