PORTLAND — The American Civil Liberties Union of Maine has tapped a University of Maine law school administrator and professor to succeed Shenna Bellows as executive director.
ACLU Maine announced Monday that Alison Beyea, director of admissions and adjunct professor of juvenile law, will serve as executive director. Beyea previously served in the Justice Policy Program at the Muskie School of Public Service and at Pine Tree Legal Assistance. She also was deputy director of the ACLU of Nevada in 1993.
Beyea will fill the vacancy left last fall when Bellow resigned to run for Senate.
Susan Peck, president of the ACLU of Maine’s board, said Beyea has “demonstrated a dedication to key civil liberties issues including criminal justice reform, children’s rights and women’s rights.”
