1927 – 2014

FARMINGTON — Claire Elaine Taylor, 87, of Farmington, died Friday, April 25, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 29, 1927, in Palermo, a daughter of Everett H. and Annabelle (Tobey) McKechnie Sr. She attended Augusta schools, graduating from Cony High School in 1944.

Claire’s working career began in Augusta at the Unemployment Bureau and later at Westinghouse Supply Co. After moving to Farmington, she worked for 13 years as a waitress in local restaurants until starting in the office of the Franklin Broadcasting Corp. in 1964. She retired after 36 years in 2000 and during that time, she was the first female radio station manager in Maine.

She was a member of the Fairbanks Union Church and was very involved with the Franklin County Animal Shelter, particularly in the care of dogs, which she loved very much.

Claire enjoyed the company of her friends playing bingo, traveling and trips to the casino. She loved to cook for family and friends and always wanted to be remembered as a good cook.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ibarguen and her husband, Al, of Wilton; two grandchildren, Nicole Ibarguen and her daughter, Marissa Nicole Sawyer, of Farmington, and Miguel Ibarguen and his fiancee, Brandy Durant, and their children, Braylin Isabel and Bristol “The Pistol” Taylor Ibarguen of South Paris; a special niece and nephews, Shirley Ann James of Topsham, and Tom and Conrad Taylor, both of Farmington; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alcott “Bill” Taylor in 1989; two brothers, Sonny and Arnold McKechnie; and an infant sister, Dorothy McKechnie.

Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with her family and friends on her tribute wall at www.wilesrc.com.
