FARMINGTON — The Farmington Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the spring tennis program for area students in grades seven and eight.

The deadline for registering is 5 p.m. Friday, May 2, at the recreation office in the Farmington Community Center.

Participants will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Hippach Field Tennis Courts, beginning Tuesday, May 6, and continuing until Thursday, May 22.

Players will learn and practice basic strokes and gain understanding of the rules and scoring associated with the game. Through a variety of fundamental drills, students will be taught the proper method for hitting forehand, hitting backhand and making serves. As the players progress, each will play practice sets against others of similar ability. Participants must supply their own rackets and water bottles.

This program is limited to the first eight to register.

This year’s program director will be Amanda Quirion. She graduated from Skowhegan Area High School and played on the high school’s varsity tennis team for three years and was the first singles player for her junior and senior years. This past school year she has worked for the Recreation Department as a supervisor for after-school hours and pickleball.

The standard registration fee is $25. This should be paid by check to Amanda Quirion. There is a $5 fee charged to participants who do not reside in the town of Farmington, or whose parents do not pay property taxes to Farmington.
