Poppy Day is this weekend

LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will have VFW Poppies at Shaw’s and Marden’s on Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3. Poppy Days supports veterans.

Also available will be applications for eligible veterans to join the Lewiston VFW Post.

Volunteering for Poland food bank

POLAND — Employees at the Poland Spring bottling plant will spend their Saturday spring cleaning and doing repair work for the local Poland Community Food Bank, 1208 Maine St. The food bank assists more than 80 families in the tri-town area (Poland, Minot and Mechanic Falls) monthly.

Approximately 50 employees and their family members will participate in the Spring Spruce-up Event from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on May 3, ensuring that local neighbors in need have a clean, comfortable location to obtain food for their families. The volunteer day piggybacks a recent contribution from Poland Spring Bottling that provided installation of 19 new windows to the facility last week.

‘One City, Many Stories’ event May 9

LEWISTON — “One City, Many Stories,”featuring Franco-American storyteller and musician Michael Parent will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

Parent will be accompanied by Greg Boardman and will present a family-friendly performance of stories and music in French and English.

Kora yard sale on May 10

LEWISTON — Kora Temple will host a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, in Kora’s parking lot at 11 Sabattus St.

All proceeds from the sale will be used for building improvement projects. Light refreshments will be served during the day.

VFW to host dance, karaoke

AUBURN —A “Bloom With Us” dance and karaoke will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at VFW Post 1603 at 588 Minot Ave.

The event is open to the public. There is no cover charge.

There will be live DJ AaronC, ’50s and ’60s music, free finger food, 50/50, door prizes and raffles, including a May Basket of food.

Attendees are asked to bring a new children’s book to donate to the Danville Church Saturday Library Program, which is held weekly from 10 a.m. to noon at the church on Danville Road.
