MINOT — A roadblock to check for motorists operating under the influence led to several arrests late Saturday night into Sunday morning.

According to Sergeant Tim Kachnovich of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, the joint effort between the sheriff’s department and Maine State Police established a sobriety checkpoint on Route 12.

Kachnovich said a total of 358 vehicles passed through the roadblock, resulting in four OUI arrests as well as arrests for drug possession, operating after suspension and probation violations.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant through the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety and Kachnovich said more are planned in the coming months in addition to “saturation patrols,” for which extra officers are assigned solely for OUI detection.
