GARDINER — Leavitt took the lead early in the game Tuesday and its bullpen slammed the door in an 8-7 KVAC baseball over Gardiner.
Mitchel Davis had a huge game at the plate, smacking two doubles and driving in four runs for the Hornets (3-3). Drew Gosselin threw four innings on the mound for Leavitt, while Levi Morin relieved him in the fifth to close things out.
Josh Mashke of Gardiner ripped a three-run double to fuel the Tigers’ rally. Gardiner fell to 1-5 with the loss.
GRAY — Daniel Quint’s single in the 5th inning led to a couple errors and two runs crossing the plate for Wells, which topped Gray-New Gloucester 3-2 in a WMC boys’ baseball contest.
Quint, Tim Bernard and Bennie McMinis all scattered a pair of hits to pace the Wells offense. Bernard’s sacrifice fly led to the go ahead run crossing the plate in the fifth. Charlie Bell took the win on the mound, hurling three strong innings for the Warriors (4-1).
Justin McKenna went the distance for the Patriots (3-2), allowing eight hits through seven innings of play.
Oak Hill 11, Mt. Valley 0
RUMFORD — Jared Glazier had a stellar performance on the mound, striking out every Mt. Valley batter at least once, and Oak Hill cruised to an 11-0 MVC victory over Mt. Valley.
Oak Hill (5-2) performed strong on the offensive side of the ball, outhitting the Falcons 18-2 in six innings. Jonah and Jake Martin each smacked a triple. Glazier fanned 10 batters to secure the victory.
For Mt. Valley, Ian Austin pitched 3 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.
Brunswick 3, Mt. Blue 1
FARMINGTON — Charlie Lowell came in for an injured John Parker and hurled four strong innings as Brunswick edged past Mt. Blue 3-1 in KVAC baseball.
Lowell allowed just four hits on the afternoon while picking up two strikeouts in the victory for Brunswick (4-1). Ryan Maciejewski scattered a pair of hits to pace the Dragons.
Cam Abbott threw solidly for Mt. Blue (3-3), recording three strikeouts and allowing three runs on seven hits.
Bangor 3, Edward Little 2
BANGOR — Hunter Boyce drove in two runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the sixth, as Bangor nipped Edward Little, 3-2, in KVAC baseball action Tuesday.
Boyce’s heroics made a winner of Andrew Hillier, who scattered five hits, fanned four and walked one for the compete-game victory. He outdueled Mike Hammond, who allowed six hits and three walks and struck out a batter while going the distance for EL.
Nate Pushard had two hits, including a double, and drove in both runs for the Red Eddies (3-3). Brendan Moore had two hits for the Rams (5-1).
Softball
Bangor 13, Edward Little 1
BANGOR — Emily Reilly hit for the cycle, and batted in multiple runs, as Bangor rolled to a 13-1 rout over Edward Little in softball.
Sydni Cosgrove and Emily Gilmore chipped in two hits apiece for the Rams who moved to 5-1 on the season. Reilly’s strong offensive effort aided a one-run pitching effort by Skylar Cassum. Reilly entered during the sixth inning to close the game out for Bangor.
Kory Norcross batted in the lone run for the Red Eddies (3-3), off a groundout that scored Hannah Farrington.
Mt. Abram 8, Lisbon 7
SALEM — Strong pitching denied Lisbon’s late rally as Mt. Abram edged past the Greyhounds 8-7 in a softball matchup Tuesday.
Katie Beth Jordan led the offense with three hits for the Roadrunners, while getting the starting job pitching. Olivia Ryan paced Mt. Abram (2-3) with a pair of hits and a double on the day.
Lisbon (1-3) had multiple repeat hitters in Minica Austin (three hits), Arianna Kahler and Taylor Plourde. Kailyn and Alyssa Hill rounded out the pitching effort for the Greyhounds.
Gardiner 11, Leavitt 2
GARDINER — Brittany Rollins shut down the Leavitt offense and smacked three hits on the day as Gardiner ran away with an 11-2 victory over Leavitt in girls’ softball action.
Kristal Smith and Morgan Carver chipped in a pair of hits each to pace the Gardiner offense. Mary Toman relieved Rollins in the fourth inning, allowing two runs in the final frame for the Tigers (6-0). Gardiner, which remains undefeated, had the first runs scored against them this season.
Katelyn Deblois shined for Leavitt (3-3), belting a pair of hits, including a double.
Oxford Hills 10, Lewiston 1
PARIS — Oxford Hills erupted for five runs in the first inning and three in the second Tuesday en route to its fourth consecutive KVAC softball win, 10-1 over Lewiston.
Anna Winslow had two hits, including a triple, for the Vikings (4-1). Annika Kahkonen also added a pair of hits, and Taylor Johnson chalked up another three-bagger.
Crystal West and Cody Akers combined to allow only four hits in the victory. Oxford Hills also turned a double play to end a bases-loaded threat by the Blue Devils in the fourth.
Lewiston (0-6) scored its run on an error in the seventh. Mikayla Girardin worked the complete game in the circle for the Devils.
Oak Hill 5, Mountain Valley 3
RUMFORD — Sadie Goulet pitched a four-hitter, Oak Hill played error-free defense behind her, and Lauren Beganny belted a home run and a double in the Raiders’ 5-3 MVC softball victory over Mountain Valley.
Grace Sabine added two singles for the Raiders (3-4), who have won three consecutive games. Oak Hill scored two runs on a walk and errors to take the lead in the sixth, then added an insurance tally in the seventh.
Shannon Laubauskas cranked a home run for the Falcons (4-3). Lindsey Marston struck out seven in the hard-luck loss.
Carrabec 13, Spruce Mountain 10
NORTH ANSON — Carrabec broke a 10-10 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning and held on for a wild 13-10 MVC softball win over Spruce Mountain.
Brooke Lewis led off the fifth for the Cobras (2-2) with a triple. She scored on a double by Baylee Atwood, who later scored on a wild pitch. Carrabec added another run in the sixth on a single by Paige Chadbourne, who advanced on an error and a steal before scoring on a passed ball.
The Phoenix (3-2) were plagued by five errors. Alex Bessey and Kailee Newcomb each had two hits for Spruce Mountain, including a double by Newcomb. Lewis also had a double for the Cobras, backing the six-hit pitching of Jessica Vaillancourt.
Boys’ lacrosse
Cony 11, Lewiston 6
AUGUSTA — Bronson Kieltyka netted a hat trick in a strong offensive effort as Cony ran past Lewiston 11-6 in boys’ lacrosse.
The Rams (2-4) utilized six different scorers to give them the edge. Cony played a strong possession game, outdoing Lewiston in ground balls by a wide margin.
For Lewiston (2-3), Max Bolduc led the offensive charge, launching three into the net.
