CALAIS — Calais police are investigating an incident in which a local man was attacked and wounded by another man who was armed with a hatchet, police said Thursday.
Damien Cole, 19, of Calais suffered a 1-inch-long cut to a knee in the incident, which took place about 11:30 p.m. on May 2, said Sgt. John Preston.
Cole told police he was walking on a path near Calais Cemetery when a tall man wearing sneakers grabbed him and swung at him with a hatchet. Cole, who told police he did not recognize the man, was able to break free and fled.
Cole went to the emergency room of Calais Regional Hospital and was treated for his wound and released, said Preston.
