AUGUSTA (AP) — An Augusta man is facing charges for allegedly setting fire to a city home in an attempt to kill an occupant.

Jason K. Brown pleaded not guilty Monday at his arraignment via video in Kennebec County Superior Court to charges of attempted murder, arson and aggravated criminal mischief. He was held on $50,000 bail.

Prosecutors said the 29-year-old Brown threatened to kill a resident of the home last August, then later that night set the fire to the home, causing $2,000 in damage to siding and other building materials. No one was hurt.

The Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1k1HIcM ) reported that Brown requested a court-appointed attorney.

If he makes bail, he is barred from any contact with the alleged victims and he is barred from possessing incendiary devices.
