AUGUSTA — A mental health worker at a Maine psychiatric center says the state failed to protect her when she was repeatedly stabbed in the hand and face by a patient while she was pregnant.
The Portland Press Herald reports Jamie Hill-Spotswood filed suit Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor. Hill-Spotswood says in the lawsuit that she told Riverview Psychiatric Center’s director of nursing a few days before the attack that she felt unsafe because of a lack of security at the Augusta facility.
Hill-Spotswood was treated at MaineGeneral Medical Center for injuries to her arms, face and hands and had to have surgery to remove the tip of a pen from her hand after the attack last year. The lawsuit does not say if the attack affected her pregnancy.
