LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen agreed to put a town-acquired house and land at 19 Munsey Ave. out to bid for a minimum of $5,000.

The property was taken for outstanding sewer fees, Town Manager Kristal Flagg told selectmen May 20.

“It is in pretty good condition,” she said.

Flagg said she and the town’s custodian went to look at the property. It has new siding and new windows, but needs a roof, she said. There is no junk or trash that needs to be removed.

“It’s not a big eyesore,” Flagg said.

Parts of the kitchen ceiling have fallen. It looks like the pipes may have frozen and affected items, including the hardwood floors, she said.

A total of $3,657.43 is owed. Of that amount, $2,329.66 is for sewer and $1,327.77 is for taxes, she said.

“The garage is all neat and tidy,” Flagg said.

When the property was in better condition it was valued at $62,300, she said.

Selectmen tabled action, by consensus, for a mobile home that has a tenant in it and is on rented property on Gilbert Street. Flagg said people keep saying they will come in and pay the sewer bill, but no one has come in.

The amount owed for sewer is $2,150.47.

“The taxes are paid but not the sewer,” she said.

“If we foreclose on it, we would have to move it or we have to pay rent for the land,” selectmen Chairman Bill Demaray said. The tenant would also need to be evicted, if the mobile home is moved, he said.

Flagg will contact the owners to see about payment. A 30-day notice of intent to foreclose previously was sent.

In another matter, Flagg told selectmen that painting the crosswalks is slow going because it has been too cold or raining.

The town has approximately 48 crosswalks. If it is too cold, the paint does not stick. The cost for paint is $800 to $1,000.

In another road matter, selectmen voted to place “no parking” signs on Latham Terrace to prevent vehicles from blocking traffic.

The short public way, off School and Pleasant streets, is supposed to be 25 feet wide, but there is only about 16 feet of tar, Flagg said.
