LEWISTON — Sabattus Street has reopened to traffic after a head-on crash sent three people to the hospital and caused police to shut down a portion of the road.

According to police, Jeff Pomerleau, 40, of Lewiston was driving in-bound around 11:20 a.m. Saturday when his car collided with a vehicle driven by George Bourgoin, 68, of Lewiston. Bourgoin was driving out-bound.

Bourgoin was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His passenger, his 13-year-old nephew, was taken to the hospital, but the boy’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Pomerleau was also taken to the hospital. Police said he had since been released.

The crash shut down Sabattus Street between Pond Road and Golder Street as police reconstructed the accident. The road reopened around 5:30 p.m.
