CHESTERVILLE — Singer, songwriter and storyteller

will perform a benefit concert for the Chesterville Union Meetinghouse at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14. Opening for her will be

, young performers who reside in Wilton and Chesterville.

Hill has entertained lovers of original folk, Americana, blues, and bluegrass with her eclectic mix of original songs for many years around Franklin County and beyond. Her lyrics weave stories of her working class upbringing, hardscrabble youth, teenage runaway years, love, loss and the human yearning for transformation and authenticity.

As a child, Hill sang with her family at community events in the small New Hampshire village where she grew up, declaring banjo as her preference at age 8, and taking up the guitar at age 12. Since then she has performed from Antarctica to Alaska.

The Rogers, both currently Mount Blue High School students, have been entertaining audiences on stages around Central and Western Maine with their innovative and upbeat arrangements of traditional and contemporary fiddle tunes for years now as well. Performing on fiddle and cello, the brothers light up the hall with foot-stomping Cape Breton jigs and reels and then slow it down again with heart-melting melodic waltzes. They have captured something special from the soul of Maine’s musical heritage for a new generation.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Meetinghouse improvement project scheduled for this summer, to include modifications that will make the building more accessible and useable for Chesterville residents, said officials of the non-profit organization in charge of the building.

“We hope to see this historic building come back to life for the community so that townspeople can find new ways to take advantage of its great acoustics and simple elegant space,” said Carolyn Drugge, board president.
