The Budweiser Pro Late Model division at Oxford Plains Speedway produced a first-time winner for the second consecutive week, but it was hardly a newcomer to victory lane.

Billy Childs Jr. of Leeds, a rookie in the top division but a past winner in numerous other classes at the track, held off Kyle DeSouza in a green-white-checkered finish to the 50- lap main event Friday night.

Childs took the lead in the first five laps and owned a healthy advantage at the midway point. Multiple cautions tightened the field, however, and gave the fast-closing DeSouza a golden opportunity to snag his initial win at the historic oval.

Contact from another car got DeSouza slightly sideways on the final lap, giving Childs breathing room that he held until the checkered flag. Tim Brackett of Buckfield was second, followed by Scott Moore, Shane Green and DeSouza.

Early leader Scott McDaniel was sixth ahead of Kyle Treadwell, Kevin Douglass, Scott Farrington and Jeremy Davis in the 29-car field. Jeff Burgess, Justin Drake and Trevor Sanborn were heat race winners.

Spencer Morse of Waterford made the winning pass of Keith Stuart with two laps remaining in the Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stock feature.

Stuart, who led the first 28 circuits, settled for second. B.J. Chapman, Kyle Hewins and Josh Childs were next in line.

David Tripp swept his 10-lap heat and 25-lap feature in the Ripley and Fletcher Ford Outlaw Sportsman division. Troy Jordan, Guy Childs Sr., Bryce Mains and Jerry Freve completed the top five.

In only his second start in the new Banditos division, 16-year-old Cam Childs denied veterans Derek Cairns and Jamie Heath to claim his first stock car victory. Dan Wade was fourth and Randy Henderson fifth.

DeSouza delivers at Ridge

DeSouza might have felt like he let one slip away Friday night, but he evened the score Saturday night by winning in the NASCAR Pro Series at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough for the first time.

A Massachusetts racer competing out Buckfield, DeSouza dominated the 50-lap event for his first win on Maine soil. There were few position changes at the front of the pack in the late stages, with Steve Carrier claiming second over Mike Landry, Kelly Moore and Jacob Dore.

Garrett Hall used a three-wide move to get underneath early leader Frank Wear and Jake Madore in the Sport Series feature. Wear and Madore spun out of contention in the aftermath.

Hall avoided one driver’s payback attempt and later won a drag race to the checkered flag by a fender over Sally Gherardi. Clyde Hennessey was third.

Brian Caswell won his third consecutive Wildcat feature to start the season. His streak is four wins dating back to the final race of 2013. Jon Brill was second, trailed by David Vaughn.

Clark breaks Shaw streak

Johnny Clark of Farmingdale ended D.J. Shaw’s winning streak in Pro All Stars Series North competition, winning the 150-lap race at Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick, on Saturday night.

Clark continued a streak of his own. It’s his fourth consecutive win at the track. Shaw, who entered the night having won the past three PASS North races, settled for second.

Joey Doiron of Berwick, Glen Luce of Turner and Travis Benjamin of Morrill completed the top five.

Thirteen of 21 starters finished on the lead lap. Farmington’s Cassius Clark was eighth and Turner’s Ben Rowe wound up 11th.

Speed record at Wiscasset

Under multiple management teams, Wiscasset Speedway has touted itself “Maine’s biggest and fastest” short track.

The coastal oval has never been faster than Saturday night, however, when Northeast Midget Association driver Randy Cabral turned a track record of 13.47 seconds around the banked, 3/8-mile on the second lap of a 30-lap main event.

Cabral went on to win in NEMA’s first appearance at Wiscasset since the early 1970s.

In other action, Dan Brown of Peru won the Strictly Street feature. He was joined in victory lane by Chris Thorne (Late Model), Scott Bigelow (NEMA Lite), Ryan Chadwick (Thunder 4) and Kris Knox (Mini Truck).

Welch wins ACT by DQ

Fans went home from Riverside Speedway in Groveton, N.H., thinking that Eddie MacDonald had won the 150-lap American-Canadian Tour event Saturday night.

They woke up Sunday to a different story. MacDonald, a NASCAR K&N Pro Series regular and two-time Oxford 250 winner, was disqualified after his car failed the post-race inspection.

That made Kyle Welch of Newport, N.H., a first-tie ACT winner. Joey Polewarczyk Jr. moved up to second.

The entire race was run without a caution flag around the ¼-mile track.
