PERU — Selectmen on Monday evening accepted a $4,000 bid from Maine Drilling and Blasting in Gardiner to remove ledge that interferes with plowing Gammon Road. The blasting will also allow town workers to improve drainage there.
Brenda Swan, director of the Peru Food Bank, received permission from selectmen to use land behind the playground near the Town Office for a community garden. The food bank leaders want to get more healthful food into the hands of those who need it.
Swan is looking for people to form a steering committee for the project. The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will provide guidance. Those interested in helping should contact the Town Office.

All medical tests, shots and tick and flea treatments are up to date. More information is available from the Town Office.
Selectmen’s Secretary Angela Barkhouse reported that the Oxford County Probate Office has been approved as a passport acceptance agency.
