BUCKFIELD — A Turner man was jailed Wednesday after police tracked him down in the woods following a report that he had assaulted his girlfriend.

Marcus Valencia, 32, was charged with domestic assault, criminal mischief and violating conditions of release after police with dogs tracked him down.

The drama began shortly before 7 a.m., when Maine State Police received a report from a woman who said Valencia had assaulted her while the couple was driving on Route 117.

The woman told police that after she was assaulted, she pulled into the lot at the Buckfield Mall and Valencia ran into the woods.

Five troopers responded, one with a tracking dog that sniffed for Valencia’s scent. After an hour of searching, police said, they found the suspect on the bank of a stream.

Valencia was arrested and taken to the Oxford County Jail, where he remained Wednesday night.

Valencia has a long criminal history, including charges of drunken driving, driving with a suspended license, assault and possession of marijuana. When he was arrested Wednesday, he was free on bail following an arrest for driving while intoxicated at the start of the year.
