AUBURN — Verne Paradie, a candidate for one of Auburn’s seats on the Twin Cities Charter Commission, said he will request a recount of Tuesday night’s ballot totals.
Paradie was one of six candidates seeking three seats on the commission. According to official results released by City Clerk Sue Clements Dallaire, Paradie came in fourth overall with 1,042 votes.
The third-place winner, Holly Lasagna, claimed 1,048.
In an email Thursday, Paradie said he would ask for a recount of the votes.
Dallaire said she had not received that request by the close of business Thursday.
Chip Morrison claimed the most votes, with 1,301. Michael Beaulieu collected 1,225 votes to get a seat.
The three, along with three Lewiston representatives elected Tuesday, should begin meeting later this month to begin drafting a charter and an overall plan to consolidate Lewiston and Auburn into one city.
The commission has no deadline. Once they finish writing the charter, it must be approved by a majority of voters in each city. If a majority of either city vote against it, the charter fails.
