FARMINGTON — The Farmington Recreation Department is accepting registration calls for the sixth annual fishing derby for adults with developmental disabilities.

The derby takes place from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 3, at Rollo Pond in Abbott Park at the University of Maine at Farmington. It is free

Eligible participants are adults with developmental disabilities who will be accompanied by either a family member or supervisor from a local support agency.

The derby is limited to the first 36 participants who register. Fishing is limited to a bag limit of two rainbow trout or brook trout. Four trophies will be awarded for catch weight and time-limit successes.

Those wishing to enter the derby can call the Farmington Recreation Department office at 778-3464 from June 23-30.

Registration information may be left on the department’s answering machine. Those calling are asked to leave the participant’s name, telephone number, town of residence, agency affiliation, if there is one, and derby assistant’s name.

The Recreation Department cannot furnish fishing equipment, but Life Enrichment Advancing People will provide a limited number of fishing poles for those who need one. Bait, such as worms, night crawlers or lures are the responsibility of the participant.

For those who cannot participate in the derby, Rollo Pond will be open for fishing after the Recreation Department’s fishing derbies are finished, at about 10 a.m. July 4.
