LIVERMORE FALLS — About 40 firefighters from five departments battled a fire that ripped through a home and garage Wednesday afternoon at 17 Souther Road.
The mobile home with additions, along with a garage and its contents, was destroyed.
Property owner, Ted Soucy, was away for a couple days in Rangeley. His sister, Kim Cook, said he was on his way home after he was alerted of the fire.
The fire was reported by a neighbor at 1:59 p.m., fire Chief Tim “TD” Hardy said.
It is believed the fire started in the house and spread to the garage, which was 15 to 20 feet away, he said.
State fire investigators Sgt. Joel Davis, Ike Peppard, the lead investigator, and Ken MacMaster responded to the scene.

The cause is undetermined, Hardy said. No one was home when the fire began. It was unknown Wednesday night if two cats survived.
Hardy estimated the damage at least $100,000. A few items from the house were able to be salvaged.
Firefighters from Livermore Falls, Jay, Livermore, Wilton and Chesterville responded but, by the time the first trucks arrived, both the house and garage were already on fire.
NorthStar EMS personnel also responded to the scene.
