OTISFIELD — Selectman Rick Micklon will run for a second term on the board at the annual town election Saturday.

Voters will elect a member to the Board of Selectmen, a chairman for the Board of Selectmen and a road commissioner after the annual town meeting gets underway June 28 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Otisfield Community Hall on Route 121.

“I am running,” Micklon, 58, said Thursday. “This will be my second full term.”

Micklon was elected to the board six years ago to fill a vacancy created by a former selectman, who resigned early in his term for a job opportunity. Micklon was elected in 2011 for a three-year term and hopes to be re-elected for another three-year term Saturday.

“My focus will be on keeping expenses down and taxes and the mill rate in place,” he said of his future plans on the board.

Micklon said that for the past two years, the board’s focus has been on maintaining town-owned building and grounds.

“I’m very proud of the work we’ve done,” said Micklon of the projects, such as building the town garage.

Micklon said as the new term arrives, the board will be looking to maintain the status quo and work on the Heniger Park leases as they begin to expire in 2015, along with some smaller projects.

Voters also will elect a chairman of the Board of Selectmen. Micklon said that unlike many other towns, where selectmen elect a chairman among themselves, Otisfield votes for a board chairman. Micklon said he supports the current chairman, Hal Ferguson, and wants him to continue.

“He’s an excellent chair,” Micklon said. “I feel very fortunate to be on board with Hal (Ferguson) and Len (Adler) with their experience and care for the town. We compliment each other.”

If there is a disagreement, Micklon said, “we agree to disagree, but we do it courteously.”

Voters also will elect a road commissioner. The current commissioner, Richard Bean Sr., is running for re-election.
