- The Maine State Bar Association presents Lewiston attorney Matt Dyer with the John W. Ballou Award at their annual meeting in Rockland. The award is presented by Diane Dusini, Esq., president of the association, right, and attorney with Mittel Asen LLC in Portland, not pictured. Dyer practices law with Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Lewiston and focuses on enforcing laws on behalf of families who cannot otherwise afford an attorney. Dyer has been an outspoken advocate for the rights of tenants, including safety and fair housing issues. The John W. Ballou Award is named for a highly respected Bangor lawyer and founding father of the Board of Overseers of the Bar. It honors a Maine resident or native son or daughter who demonstrates qualities in keeping with the aims and purposes of the Maine State Bar Association and who embodies the example set by John Ballou. Past recipients include George Mitchell, William S. Cohen, Edmund S. Muskie, James B. Longley, Margaret Chase Smith and Olympia Snowe.
