FREEPORT — Dr. Hector J. Rosquete, M.D., formerly of Auburn, died Wednesday, July 2, at his home.
He was born Oct. 6, 1950, in Havana, Cuba, a son of Julian and Alicia Morilla Rosquete. He moved to Florida with his family in 1960. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in biology from Purdue University, an M.D. from Indiana University; later he completed his surgical instruction from University of Massachusetts Worcester, orthopedic residency at Tufts University, and further hand surgical instruction from University of New Mexico.
He married Elizabeth Richie in West Lafayette, Ind., on Sept. 23, 1972. The Rosquetes lived in Worcester, Mass., before moving to Auburn in 1994, where both were employed at Central Maine Medical Center and were members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The couple moved to Freeport in 2005 where Dr. Rosquete was employed with Mid Coast Hospital Orthopedics, Brunswick, and a member of St. Jude, Parish of the Holy Eucharist, Freeport.
His life was defined by family, church, and his work. He was a member of Doctors Without Borders, having volunteered for missions in Haiti and Nigeria; as a member of the Ruth Paz Foundation, he volunteered his efforts many times in Honduras. When his children were younger, he even found time to volunteer as their youth soccer coach. He was a respected surgeon, devoted Christian and loving father and husband.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Rosquete of Freeport; three sons, David Rosquete and his wife, Bailey, of North Andover, Mass., Daniel Rosquete of Boston, and Jose Manuel Rosquete of Freeport; two daughters, Telma Leonard and her husband, Joshua, of Seale, Ala., and Susana Rosquete and her fiancé, Brent Carver, of Topsham; a brother, George Rosquet of Staten Island, N.Y.; a sister, Miriam Oliva and her husband, Alfredo, of Coral Gables, Fla.; two grandsons, Jose and Liam; and several nieces and nephews.
