No more finely equipped bakery will be found in New England than is now located at the corner of Second and Mill streets, Auburn, where new bread baking equipment has been installed at the bakery of Philippe Dupont. Dupont has the contract for the wholesale and retail sale of Edgeworth bread to these two cities and will ship to numerous nearby towns. Dupont makes nothing but bread — no pies or pastry of any sort. It was 22 years ago that Philippe Dupont came to Auburn from Manchester, N.H., and set up in the business in the first floor of the block which he now owns. Today he employs a manager, has five men beside himself at work in the bake shop and keeps five delivery carts on the streets.

Any firm or organization “plugs” itself. That’s good business. When it “plugs” its new community as well, that’s even better. Such is the case with the Holiday Inn motel in Auburn, which has its official opening tomorrow. The firm recently printed a new brochure concerning its new facilities on Washington St., Auburn. While a lot is said about the fine motel, the firm also devotes much space to Maine, and the Auburn-Lewiston area, in particular. “Take time to enjoy Maine’s vacationland,” the brochure says.

The first year that Fresh Air Child Herbie Stone stayed with Craig and Gail Gerry of Minot, he cried when he had to go home. That was after only two weeks. The following summer Herbie stayed for a month, as he will again this year when he and 67 other children from New York City come to this area of the state July 20 as part of a respite program called the Fresh Air Fund. “First-time visitors stay for two weeks, while kids who have been re-invited can stay up to a month,” explained local organizer Bob Melaragno, who has been involved with the program for several years. Of the 68 children coming to Central Maine, about 48 are returning.
