OXFORD — Every school in SAD 17 celebrated School Lunch Hero Day in May.
The nationwide celebration is hosted by Jarrett J. Krosiczka, author and illustrator of the popular “Lunch Lady” graphic novel series, the School Nutrition Association and Random House Children’s Books.
Inspired by his own childhood school lunch hero, Jean J. Cariglia, Krosoczka created the popular series of novels for children, starring a crime-fighting school nutrition professional and her faithful sidekick, Betty.
Students made thank-you cards, posters, banners and decorations in honor of their Lunch Lady Superhero. At Oxford Elementary School, the PTA sponsored a mini graphic novel writing contest and donated the 10-book “Lunch Lady” series to the school library.
SAD 17 has 34 women serving over 1,500 lunches daily.
