OXFORD — A Poland man was injured Sunday night when his car struck a telephone pole and caught fire on Route 26 in Welchville village.
Adam Verreault, 18, was driving southbound near Service Master at 10:15 p.m. when he lost control of his car and it went off the road, according to Oxford police Chief Jonathan Tibbetts. The 2003 Ford sedan slammed into a utility pole, flipped, struck a tree and burst into flames.
According to police, Verreault pulled himself free from the wreckage before emergency crews arrived to take him to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. The extent of his injuries was not available in the police report.
The car was a demolished, Tibbetts said.
The impact from the crash bent the telephone pole at the base, and some residences along Route 26 were briefly without power, he said.
