PARIS – The Strategic Planning Committee is set to present the SAD 17 Board of Directors with their plan for the school district’s future.

Director Jared Cash, who chaired the committee, told directors at their Monday night meeting the committee is looking for feedback. The committee represents longtime community members, alumni, parents of students, former teachers, SAD 17 board members, current teachers and administration.

Approval for the plan, which looks at the next five to 10 years, will come in the future.

“I feel very good about it,” Cash said.

While much of the work has been behind the scenes, a lot of community input has been sought, something that Cash said represents one of the largest chapters in the plan. In December, for example, the planning team held a public forum which drew about 150 people from the Oxford Hills School District with ideas for the future of local education.

Duke Albanese, who is a senior policy adviser at Great Plains Partnership and was former state education commissioner during Gov. Angus King’s term, served as the committee’s facilitator.

The idea for the group began in July 2012, when Superintendent Rick Colpitts told directors it would be part of an effort to develop a vision for students, providing them with what could be a vastly different educational environment than the one they see now.

The last districtwide strategic planning process for SAD 17 was when Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School was renovated and expanded in the 1990s.
