UPDATE: 5-year-old found in Minot pool in critical condition
MINOT — A 5-year-old girl was taken to a Portland hospital late Thursday after she was found at the bottom of a swimming pool at about 6:30 p.m.
Police said the girl was swimming with eight other children at 145 Fortin Drive when she sank to the bottom of the pool and failed to resurface.
Inside the home, a group involved in a Pampered Chef gathering was alerted to trouble when the other kids began screaming outside, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Kachnovich said.
The child was given CPR but was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived, Kachnovich said. She was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston but was later moved to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Police did not identify the child as the investigation was getting underway. Police were interviewing witnesses in an attempt to determine what caused the girl to succumb.
Fortin Drive is a dead end off Libby Road, which runs off Woodman Hill Road (Route 119).
