MECHANIC FALLS — A referendum vote on the town’s budget articles which failed to pass in June will be held on Tuesday, July 22.
Up for vote are the budgets for several municipal departments and services contained in the nine warrant articles previously rejected by voters.
Elements of the budget up for reconsideration include budgets for the Police Department, town clerk, code enforcement, animal control, health officer, legal services, town boards, debt service and pensions and insurances.
On July 9, the town council and the budget committee reworked the nine rejected budget articles and reached agreement on what should be recommended for voter approval.
The effect of the new recommendations is to greatly reduce the estimated property tax increase projected had the budget, as presented in June, passed.
The budget, as presented in June, was projected to increase property taxes by about $146 on a home assessed at $100,000.
The revised budget would reduce that amount to $81 per $100,000 of assessed value.
Under the revised budget, the total amount of money earmarked for running municipal departments for the fiscal year that began July 1 is about $83,000 less than the year just ended.
Polls will be open at the Municipal Building on Tuesday, July 22, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
