SABATTUS — The town has a new tax rate.

Selectmen unanimously voted Tuesday night to set the new mill rate at $17.80, an 8.8 percent increase over the current year, according to Town Clerk Suzanne Adams.

It was the lowest of the three tax rate options on the table for the board.

The rate raises $71,230 for the overlay, the town’s emergency reserve fund.

Tax bills were being printed Wednesday and will be mailed this next week, Adams said. The first payment is due Sept. 2, the second payment, March 2.

Two-thirds of the increase in the mill rate is from the new school budget.

Town Manager Andrew Gilmore predicted after town meeting in May that the new $2.8 million municipal budget would increase the tax rate $0.45 and the new $18.1 million school budget would increase it by $1.04.
