ROXBURY — Roxbury fire Chief Ray Carver said Thursday that arson is not being considered as a cause of the two fires that occurred an hour and a half apart at a Roxbury residence Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters from both Mexico and Roxbury fire departments originally responded at 2:14 p.m. to a fully-involved vehicle fire at the residence of Roxbury resident Dale Hodgkins.

Carver said that the vehicle, a Jeep Liberty, was parked in Hodgkin’s driveway at the time of the fire and was not running.

Hodgkin’s daughter had used the vehicle an hour earlier, Carver said, with no problems reported.

The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes.

An hour and a half later, Carver said that Roxbury and Mexico firefighters were dispatched to Hodgkin’s residence again, this time for a pull-behind trailer engulfed in flames.

The fire was quickly extinguished, Carver said.

As of Thursday afternoon, Carver said a cause has not been determined for either fire, and that neither fire has been labeled suspicious
