NORWAY — The town website has a new look.
“It’s much improved,” Town Clerk Shirley Boyce said.
She, Selectman Bruce Cook and General Assistance Administrator Shannon Moxcey developed a plan to make the site more user-friendly and attractive, not only to town office employees and residents, but particularly to tourists who may be looking for things to do in the area or just to find out about the town.
In June, voters approved the use of about $5,000 from the Denison Cole trust fund to hire Peter Morton, who works at the Norway-Paris Community Television station, as the webmaster.
The idea was to get the new look up and running for tourist season and particularly as hundreds of bicyclists are preparing to make a one-day and one-night stop in town this fall as part of the Bike Maine event.
Bike Maine was developed when the Bike Coalition looked to explore Maine’s people, places, cultures and foods. Locals are hoping to show off what Norway has to offer the tourists.
The new site has photo galleries, a link to activities in the area, a children’s section, along with town services and departments. People can pay taxes, re-register cars and do a myriad of other things at the website.
“Now, even the selectboard (list) is updated,” Cook said.
Boyce said town employees have much more flexibility and can make changes on the website much easier.
