KENNEBUNK (AP) — Getting pulled over for speeding may have been the luckiest thing that happened to an elderly man in Maine.
Gavin Falconer was stopped on Saturday by a police officer in Kennebunk. But shortly after giving the officer his license and registration, the 84-year-old suffered an apparent heart attack and slumped over in the car with no pulse.
Police said the officer, Michael Harrington, quickly went from writing out a warning for the speeding infraction to administering CPR. A second officer then arrived with a defibrillator.
Falconer was brought to a hospital where he is recovering. He told WMTW-TV (http://bit.ly/1nT7Zgp ) that he hoped to see the officer again and thank him.
Harrington said the incident is proof that there is no such thing as a “routine” traffic stop.
