DURHAM — Bill Brock’s occupation on the social networking site LinkedIn is listed simply as “Crypto Hunter.”

The local man has been tapped to lead a team of investigators into the woods — and under them — for a new TV show on Destination America called “Monsters Underground,” according to an announcement Wednesday. Destination America is in the Discovery Channel family of networks.

The team is described in a news release as “a military survivalist, a trained biologist, a reclusive hunter-tracker and a hulking pro fighter” assembled to “investigate deadly monsters living in the most inaccessible environments on Earth: underground caves, caverns and mines.”

Brock has posted a number of videos of himself on YouTube searching for Bigfoot.

“We’re right here; we’re right smack-dab in the middle of Bigfoot country, if you ask me,” he said in one video shot in Durham using a dead animal as bait last winter. “Sasquatch needs calories. It’s cold out, we’ve got a ton of snow on the ground, so what we’re doing, we’re providing him with an awesome meal.”

The six-episode “Monsters Underground” debuts at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22. The show is being produced by Go Go Luckey Entertainment.

According to the release, the show will include hunts for monsters known as the Rake in the Grand Canyon, the Aswang in the Apache Death Cave in Arizona and the Subterralien in Calaveras County’s Shadow Mine in California.
