PORTLAND (AP) — The Maine Department of Corrections is investigating a complaint that says a group of employees has created a hostile work environment at the Maine State Prison.
Both the internal affairs division and human resources departments of the Department of Corrections are investigating the complaint, which was filed in July.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1qwOAiz ) reported that two state lawmakers and a union official confirmed the investigation. A prison spokesman declined to comment.
The investigation comes after a change of leadership and several security lapses including two inmate killings by other inmates in the past 13 months. Former Commissioner Joseph Ponte left in April to lead New York City’s jails and Associate Commissioner Joseph Fitzpatrick was appointed to replace him.
