Maine humorist Gary Crocker performance to benefit Charles M. Bailey Public Library

WINTHROP  — Maine humorist Gary Crocker, who loves to entertain with stories about native Mainers and those “from away,” will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Winthrop Performing Arts Center. The all-ages event is a fundraiser to benefit the Bailey Public Library expansion project.

Crocker, born in Lewiston and living in West Gardiner, has appeared around New England and across the country. He has been speaking publicly for two decades, and says he believes that “laughter heals” and that “the power of humor can improve almost any situation.” Crocker is especially enthusiastic about doing an event to support the Winthrop library. “I came to this library as a kid,” he stated.

Special musical guests, The Singing Sisters of St. Francis will join Crocker and perform some familiar songs. The group (inspired by the 1992 film “Sister Act”) is comprised of several local women.

The event will also include a “Pick-A-Prize” raffle and a raffle for a valuable handmade quilt from the Cumston Area Quilters. The planned addition to the Bailey Library will provide space for an expanded children and adult library, as well as an event room, study area, public meeting room, and expanded technology, according to library director Richard Fortin.

Tickets may be purchased at the Bailey Public Library, D.R. Struck Landscape Nursery, Apple Valley Books, and at Bank of Maine branches in Winthrop and Manchester. Admission is $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
