The show was established in 1969, when 60 entrepreneurial craft artisans looking for a venue to sell their wares chose the Cumberland Fairgrounds. One of the originators, Wayne Holmquist, recalled that he was worried it would look like a church bazaar, but customers came and bought — and have been coming ever since.

This year, with nearly 200 artisans and craftsmen, a huge variety of arts and crafts will be available, as well as a raffle area, a shop in the exhibition hall with additional wares, a youth exhibition area for young crafters, musical entertainment, and local food vendors.

A non-profit, United Maine Craftsmen, is the largest and longest-running craft organization in the state, with 270 members and 150 associate members. Although not a juried organization, UMC accepts only craft items that are Maine-made, completely hand-made, and are significantly crafted. In addition, UMC offers educational scholarships, mentoring, and six other craft shows throughout the state.

The show will open at 10 a.m. each day and close at 5 p.m. all days except Sunday when it will close at 4 p.m. UMC supports the Good Shepherd Food Bank so bring two non-perishable food items to the show and get half off admission.
