MONHEGAN (AP) — Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King are traveling to Monhegan to celebrate the island’s 400th year anniversary.

The parade and ceremony on the tiny island Wednesday will honor the anniversary of Cpt. John Smith’s visit to Monhegan Plantation in 1614. The parade is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. at Lobster Cove, followed by a ceremony at the schoolhouse.

Collins, a Republican, and King, an independent, are expected to deliver remarks on the island’s milestone.

Monhegan Island, about 10 miles from the coastal town of Port Clyde, has less than 100 residents year-round, but draws thousands of tourists to its shores, particularly in the summer months.
