AUBURN — A Bangor-based transportation company kicks off work Thursday on a $6.5 million truck terminal facility in Auburn’s Kittyhawk Business Park.

Hartt Transportation plans to build a 30,000 square foot, $5.3 million facility with office space, a maintenance facility and an automated commercial truck wash in the park.

The project includes $1.2 million in new roads in Kittyhawk Park, including work to extend the public portion of First Flight Drive.

That work, as well as utilities, fiber-optic Internet service and views of the area from Interstate 95 should help promote expansion to other lots in the industrial park, according to company officials.

“Our new investment in Auburn will enable us to better service our customer base and provide a location with direct access to the highway while creating jobs and new business opportunities for the Lewiston-Auburn area and beyond,” company President Billy Hartt said in a written statement.

The project is an expansion of the company’s presence in Auburn. Hartt began operating trucks out of Formed Fiber Technologies in 2001 and currently operates a 300-employee operation at 1591 Hotel Road. That operation has 200 trucks.
