SOUTH PORTLAND — Mad Horse Theatre Company, in association with Razer Entertainment, will present the Tony Award-winning musical “Cabaret” directed and choreographed by Ray Dumont, from Aug. 14-24, at the Mad Horse Theater.

Germany, 1929, is the backdrop for this musical, which tells the story of Sally Bowles, a wild and fascinating performer who becomes involved with Cliff, an American writer. As the shadow of the Third Reich begins to descend over Europe, we see how it affects Sally, Cliff, and their friends.

According to Dumont, “This production is an entirely different approach to ‘Cabaret’ from any other I’ve ever done. The intimate Mad Horse Theater space, and audience seating on two sides of the playing area, have made us all rethink how we stage the show. The entire company has treated this production as a workshop, in which experimentation is encouraged. The result has been some of the most exciting and provocative work many of us have ever done. The subject matter is not for young audiences.”

Performance times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Mad Horse Theater is in the Hutchins School, 24 Mosher Street.

All seats are $20. Purchase tickets at www.madhorse.com or call 207-747-4148 for more information.
