NORWAY — The public is invited to a live music event at First Universalist Church 15 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, during which singer/songwriter and Western Maine-native

will record tracks for her next CD release.

Although the evening will be a showcase of Pierson’s formidable skills as a pianist, singer, songwriter, and performer, the real star of the show will be the church’s piano – an 1898 Steinway Model A grand piano that once belonged to beloved Oxford Hills music teacher Bess Klain. Pierson recalls sneaking into the sanctuary as a teenager when she and her mother were volunteering at the church’s weekly Community Lunch “just for the thrill of playing it for a few stolen moments.”

Little did Pierson know what an important part of her life the piano would become – Pierson has been the church’s music director since March 2003. In addition, the church has also been host of Pierson’s yearly Charlie Brown Christmas concert and of the CD release concert in 2012 of her critically acclaimed CD “The Open Road.”

In an age when much about the creation of new recordings is done digitally and behind closed doors, Pierson’s aim with the live event is to create both a memorable recording and a meaningful experience in an intimate setting in front of a live, listening audience.

Joining Pierson on the recording will be Shawn Nadeau on upright bass and Craig Bryan on drums. Veteran songwriter and producer Davy Sturtevant will be the recording engineer.

Every ticket purchase will guarantee the buyer a copy of the recording upon its release.
