Sticking to his bargain-basement roots, Maine Republican Gov. Paul LePage bought it when he saw it in Boothbay.

But this time it wasn’t just a good deal at a Marden’s store he once managed, but a house valued at $355,000. The store’s popular jingle is — “I should of bought it, when I saw it, at Marden’s.”

Alex Willette, a spokesman for LePage’s re-election campaign, confirmed the governor and his wife, first lady Ann LePage, picked up the foreclosed-on home for $215,000. It has three bedrooms and 2½ baths, with a right of way to the Damariscotta River.

The LePages last owned a Maine home in 2010 in Waterville that was sold prior to Gov. LePage’s election to office. The couple also own a home in Ormond Beach, Fla., where Ann LePage spends the winter months with her elderly mother who doesn’t tolerate Maine winters well because of scleroderma.

Ann LePage told the Lincoln County News the couple have been looking for a coastal Maine home for 10 years and, when they were younger, they frequently visited Boothbay with their children. The home, on Back Narrows Road, was built 12 years ago, the newspaper reported.

Willette said the LePages will continue to live at the state’s official residence for the governor, The Blaine House, in Augusta, and intend to be residents of Maine in the future.
