LEWISTON — Richard E. Farmer of Yarmouth has been named president of the Maine College of Health Professions.
Farmer has some 40 years of experience as an educator, having served in roles ranging from teacher to executive leadership. Prior to beginning his work at MCHP in Lewiston, he was president of Sanford-Brown College, an allied health educational institution in Boston.
Farmer’s professional background includes serving as president of McIntosh College in Dover, N.H., vice president in several capacities at Gibbs College in Norwalk, Conn., executive vice president at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio, and associate vice president at Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla.
Farmer has worked in key roles to establish clinical education relationships between health professions education programs and medical centers in the greater Boston area, including Massachusetts General Hospital.
He has authored or co-authored numerous scholarly articles, textbook chapters, and papers on a variety of topics, including law enforcement public policy.
Farmer succeeds Susan Baltrus as president of the Maine College of Health Professions. Baltrus retired recently after working as a nurse and nurse educator for some 40 years.
The Maine College of Health Professions was established as the Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1891. The college presently offers associate degree programs in nursing, radiologic technology, and nuclear medicine technology.
