KINGFIELD — A local man is accused of forcing his way into an apartment on Main Street early Friday morning and physically assaulting a person in the apartment, Franklin County Lt. David St. Laurent said.
The Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call at approximately 1:30 a.m. reporting a burglary, criminal mischief and assault, he said.
Deputy Nicholas Zecher investigated and found Martin R. Clarrage, 22, of Kingfield at another residence and arrested him on a charge of felony burglary and a misdemeanor charge of violation of condition of release, St. Laurent said.
Clarrage is on a deferred disposition on an unrelated crime.
A conviction on the burglary charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.
Clarrage was also issued a summons on a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.
He is accused of punching a wall in the hallway to the apartment, which is above the law office of Don Fowler, and kicking a door as he forced his way in, St. Laurent said.
Detective Ken Charles and St. Laurent went to Kingfield to conduct follow-up interviews later Friday morning.
Another person may face charges, St. Laurent said.
The investigation report will be submitted to the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office for review to determine if more charges will be brought, he said.
Clarrage was released on $250 cash bail from the Franklin County jail in Farmington on Friday.
